Our 2017 December to March 2018 walks programme includes the Hertfordshire Chain Walk Challenge.
This is a series of Tuesday walks, led by Philip Cork, covering all the walks that comprise the Hertfordshire Chain Walk. The programme covers walks 1-9 and the remainder of the walks will be included in the next programme starting in April 2018.
You may notice that walks 3 & 4 are not in the programme and this is because the Letty Green Sunday walk on 25th February will cover the same paths as the chain walks.
The Herfordshire Chain Walk was devised by the East Herts Footpath Society and consists of 15 linked circular walks which cover a total distance of 87 miles.
Starting in the south of Hertfordshire the first walk passes through the London Borough of Enfield. Some of its path is shared with the Hertfordshire Way, the chain then heads north to Little Berkhamsted and passes west of Hertford. It continues northwards between Stevenage and Buntingford, meeting the Hertfordshire Way near Sandon and Therfield, south of Royston. It finishes at Ashwell and Morden railway station across the county boundary in Cambridgeshire.
All the chain walks are marked as National Trails on OS maps.
